UNIONE PROVINCIALE DI TORINO DI CONFCOOPERATIVE

The Unione Provinciale di Torino
di Confcooperative was set up in 1949
as an instrument to bring together the cooperative
movement in the social-christian area. It gradually
strengthened its role as the trade union for cooperative
businesses, safeguarding and
representing its member companies
and working to spread a new form
of entrepreneurship in all sectors of the social
and economic fabric of the area.
The business system headed by the Unione di Torino is distinguished
by a large presence throughout the province of small
and medium-sized companies deeply rooted in the local
context. By creating consortium formulas,
the organisation continues to maintain and strengthen the
fundamental characteristics of participation
and individual responsibilities of
members in their relationship with a market which
increasingly demands greater dimensions than those of individual
cooperatives. There are 8 federations
in the Unione Provinciale di Torino,
which draw up the policies for the sectors and take part
in drafting the strategies and implementing the overall
objectives of confcooperative. There are now 400
member cooperatives.
Federabitazione: members
include those cooperatives whose mission is to build or
reclaim residential apartments to meet the needs for owner-occupied
or non-owner-occupied dwellings.
Federagrolimentare: the
cooperatives work in some special areas such as the development,
transformation and sale of farm products, production and
breeding.
Federconsumo: this federation
comprises retailing cooperatives and other highly important
cooperatives.
Federazione del credito
cooperativo: this organisation comprises the 17 cooperative
banks based in piedmont, Valle d'Aosta and Liguria.
Federcultura: this federation
includes those cooperatives which work in the field of communication
and information, tourist and hotel services, cultural activities,
schools, sport and entertainment.
Federlavoro: this federation
brings together industrial, business and advanced services,
and road transport cooperatives. It is now rapidly expanding
in the province of turin and makes a decisive contribution
to local job creation and training new skills.
Federsolidarietà:
this federation comprises 139 cooperatives employing thousands
of members and operators in sectors which co-operate with
various types of voluntary service, in the general interest
of the community, for promoting human values and integrating
citizens by managing health, welfare and educational services,
as well as other activities: agricultural, industrial, commercial
or work induction services for the disadvantaged.
