Women victims of trafficking who intend to escape from
and report their exploiters, giving concrete details that
demonstrate that they have been “trafficking victims”
(social programme), may turn to the Comune Ufficio Stranieri,
as well as to the registered Authorities and Associations
taking part in this Project so that they can be received,
listened to and included in humanitarian protection projects.
This enables them to obtain both a residence and employment
permit, as well as reacquiring their passport (by being
accompanied to their national embassy).
The programme includes professional language training, and
work scholarships and continuing through to work and independence.
Almost all the women who have accepted one of the two programmes
(and there have been hundreds in Piedmont alone) have first
obtained their residence permit for humanitarian reasons
(6-12 months) and then for work (2 years), with the possibility
of going on to autonomy, when all trace of their programme
disappears.
Women victims of trafficking should realise that in Piedmont
(and throughout Italy) there is a widespread public-private
support network able to deal both with the emergency and
with the integration programme.
